The Best Events To Hire A Babysitter For This Fall
School may have started back up, but there’s still a little bit of fun left to squeeze out of the Philly summer. For you, we mean. The adults that are reading this. Not your kids. They had all summer off from school to run and play while you had to slog to work every day in hot, humid, thick air. You deserve one last summer night to yourselves, so why not get a sitter and have some kid-less fun one last time before fall hits Philly like a bag of leaves?
Thursday, September 20: Have you ever dreamt of having a cocktail poured directly out of a cement mixer into your mouth? Well, thanks to the Whisky Bonanza, your very strange and specific dreams can come true. Put on by Society Hill BBQ and blues joint The Twisted Tail, this fest promises sips of rare and unavailable whiskeys from all over. Plus, you know, a giant cement mixer full of liquor.
Friday, September 21: Terror Behind the Walls returns! Eastern State Penitentiary hosts a giant haunted house full of zombie prisoners, frightening nurses and all sorts of terrifying things to scare guests along the way. The event runs almost every night through October! Tickets sell out quickly, so get them while you can.
Saturday, September 22: Eat a big breakfast with the kids that morning, because you might want to hit PHLOktoberfest with a full stomach. Hit Frankford Hall at noon for a solid ten hours of stein-lifting, beer drinking, sausage chomping, and harvest celebration (or whatever Oktoberfest is about).
Thursday, September 27: You know what kids hate? Performance art and parties where the adults outnumber them. Which makes FEASTIVAL is the perfect excuse to ditch yours for the night. A culinary celebration of the Philly Fringe Festival put on by a who’s who of the Philly restaurant scene (Michael Solomonov and Nicholas Elmi?!), it’s the perfect spectacle to ditch the kids for. (At $300 a ticket though, you might ask the grandparents instead of hiring a sitter.)
Thursday, October 4: The Night Market in Point Breeze returns for its final event of the season. For those that don’t know it’s the Food Trust’s giant food festival. The event will be around 20th and Federal streets. Get down there to kick off true fall with dozens of food vendors, live music and don’t forget the craft beer! Seriously, hire the baby sitter and get down to this one.
